  • Bank transfers: your name, payment reference and amount as they appear on our bank statement.

  • Programmes and events: names and contact details of participants. For children, we collect a parent or guardian’s details and consent.
  • Newsletters: your name and email address if you subscribe.
  • Website use: technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit, recorded in server logs and through cookies.

If you use our spiritual counselling service, the counsellor will explain separately how anything you share is kept confidential.

How we collect it

We collect most information directly from you. Sometimes we receive it from others, for example from our payment provider when you donate, or from a fundraising platform if you give to one of our appeals there. When we collect information about you from someone else, we will tell you, as required by Information Privacy Principle 3A.

How we use it

  • To process donations and send receipts, including receipts you can use to claim a New Zealand donation tax credit where eligible
  • To keep the financial records that charities must keep by law
  • To reply to your enquiries
  • To run our classes, youth programmes, events and services safely
  • To tell you about our appeals, programmes and progress, if you have agreed to hear from us
  • To protect our website and donation forms from fraud, spam and misuse
  • To understand how our website is used so we can improve it

Who we share it with

We never sell, rent or trade your personal information. We only share it with:

  • Our payment providers (Stripe) and our bank, to process donations
  • Our website host (Hostinger) and the service providers that run our website, forms and email
  • Inland Revenue, Charities Services or other authorities, when the law requires it

Information stored overseas

Some of our service providers store or process information outside New Zealand, including in the United States and Europe. We only use providers that protect personal information in ways comparable to the Privacy Act 2020.

How we keep it safe and for how long

We store information on secure systems, use encrypted connections (HTTPS), and limit access to trustees and volunteers who need it. We keep donation and financial records for at least seven years, as New Zealand tax law requires. We keep other information only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, then delete or anonymise it.

Cookies

Our website uses cookies that are needed for it to work, such as those that keep donation and contact forms secure. Embedded content such as maps or videos from Google, YouTube and Facebook may set their own cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, although some parts of the site may not work properly without them.

Emails and messages

We only send newsletters and appeal updates to people who have agreed to receive them, in line with the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007. Every email includes a way to unsubscribe. Donation receipts and replies to your enquiries are sent as part of the service you asked for.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Email our Privacy Officer at admin@amanislamictrust.com. We will respond as soon as we can, and within 20 working days.

Complaints

If you have a concern about how we handle your information, please contact us first so we can put it right. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
